Ultrasound (Sonography) is a safe, painless, and non-invasive medical imaging modality that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce real-time dynamic images of internal organs, soft tissues, and blood vessels without ionizing radiation.
Abdominal Ultrasound: Evaluation of liver, gallbladder, bile ducts, pancreas, spleen, kidneys, and abdominal aorta for stones, fatty liver, cysts, and tumors.
Pelvic Ultrasound (Transabdominal & Transvaginal): Assessment of the uterus, ovaries, endometrial lining, and fallopian tubes in women, and prostate and urinary bladder in men.
Obstetric & Fetal Wellbeing: Routine gestational dating, early pregnancy viability, NT scan, anomaly scan, and growth scans with amniotic fluid index monitoring.
Small Parts & Musculoskeletal: High-resolution evaluation of the thyroid gland, scrotum/testes, salivary glands, breast tissue, and superficial lumps.
For whole abdomen and pelvic scans, fasting for 4 to 6 hours is typically required for optimal gallbladder visualization, along with drinking water 1 hour prior to maintain a comfortably full urinary bladder.
