About women under 25 years checkups
Travel exposes you to a wider range of bugs than staying put, and quietly wrecks the routine that keeps everything else steady.
Typhoid and the general family of stomach infections are the usual suspects, and they often show up as vague, low-grade unwellness rather than obvious illness. Timing matters when testing for them: several tests only go positive after a few days, so an early negative may need repeating.
The quieter cost is routine. Eating out most nights, sleeping badly, drinking more than you would at home. It lands in your liver numbers first. And travelling indoors with covered daylight hours leaves your vitamin D as low as any desk job's.
You travel for work more than once a month
You've had fever or a stomach upset after a trip
You eat out most days when travelling
Travel keeps wrecking your sleep
You feel run down and can't point at a reason
You want a check before or after a long trip
This page lists 7 options. Here's what each one actually measures, so you can pick instead of guessing.
Blood tests
Urinalysis: Looks for protein, sugar, blood and infection in urine. Catches kidney and bladder problems that blood tests walk straight past.
Widal Test: Screens for typhoid. If a fever's dragged past a few days here, this is usually one of the first things checked.
Complete Blood Picture (CBP): Counts your red cells, white cells and platelets. It's the cheapest way to catch anaemia or an infection you didn't know you had, and it's the single most booked test we do.
CRP test: Tells you there's inflammation somewhere. It won't tell you where, but it answers whether something's actually going on.
Liver Function Test (LFT): Your liver handles everything you eat, drink and swallow. It puts up with a lot before it complains, so this picks up fatty liver or alcohol strain years before you'd feel anything.
Vitamin D (25 - Hydroxy Vitamin D, Serum): Your body makes this from sunlight, and most people who work indoors don't get enough. Low levels show up as aching bones, weak muscles and flat mood.
Master Health Checkup: Blood counts, sugar, lipids, liver, kidney, thyroid and urine bundled into one visit. Cheaper than booking the pieces separately.
No fasting: CRP test, Complete Blood Picture (CBP), Vitamin D (25 - Hydroxy Vitamin D, Serum)
Skip alcohol for 24 hours first: Liver Function Test (LFT)
9 to 12 hours fasting. Water's fine: Master Health Checkup
Midstream sample, first thing in the morning ideally: Urinalysis
No fasting. Tell them the day your fever started: Widal Test
Tell the collection team everything you're taking, prescription or not. Plenty of supplements move these numbers, and without that context your report reads wrong.
Twice a year if you travel regularly. Plus a prompt check after any fever or stomach trouble you picked up on the road.
Tell your doctor where you went and when symptoms started. Both change which infections are worth considering, and whether a negative result needs a repeat.
These tests point at a diagnosis. They don't make one. Read your report with a doctor who knows your history and what you're currently taking.
