About women under 25 years checkups
Heart disease kills more Indian men than anything else, and the risk climbs steeply through these years. This is where screening stops being optional.
Arteries narrow slowly and give you nothing to notice. For a lot of men the first symptom is the heart attack. Blood markers show the risk stacking up. Imaging shows what's already happened to rhythm, structure and pumping. Neither answers it alone, which is why screening at this age uses both.
Diabetes climbs steeply here too, and kidney function starts sliding, especially if you've got diabetes or high BP. You can lose a serious amount of kidney function before noticing anything, and it doesn't come back. That's the whole reason to watch it.
Chest discomfort, breathlessness or palpitations
You've got diabetes, high BP or high cholesterol
Heart disease runs in the family
You smoke, or you used to
Low energy, low drive, muscle you're losing
You've never had your heart properly looked at
This page lists 9 options. Here's what each one actually measures, so you can pick instead of guessing.
Blood tests
Diabetes Testing (FBS + PLBS): Sugar before food and two hours after. The second number is the interesting one, because that's where trouble shows up first.
Complete Blood Picture (CBP): Counts your red cells, white cells and platelets. It's the cheapest way to catch anaemia or an infection you didn't know you had, and it's the single most booked test we do.
Lipid Panel: Splits your cholesterol into the good, the bad and the triglycerides. High cholesterol has no symptoms at all, which is exactly the problem.
Renal Function Test (RFT): Kidneys can lose a big chunk of function before you notice a thing, and what's gone doesn't come back. If you're diabetic or have high BP, this isn't optional.
Free Testosterone: The testosterone your body can actually use, not the amount locked away. Low levels mean flat energy, low drive and muscle that won't build.
Vitamin D (25 - Hydroxy Vitamin D, Serum): Your body makes this from sunlight, and most people who work indoors don't get enough. Low levels show up as aching bones, weak muscles and flat mood.
Scans
Electrocardiogram (ECG): A few minutes lying still while it records your heart's rhythm. Quick, cheap, and the standard starting point for anything cardiac.
Abdominal Ultrasound: Painless look at your liver, gallbladder, kidneys and pancreas. No radiation, and it takes about fifteen minutes.
2D Echo: An ultrasound of your heart, beating, live on screen. Shows how strongly it pumps and whether the valves are doing their job. No radiation.
Nothing to do beforehand: 2D Echo, Electrocardiogram (ECG)
No fasting: Complete Blood Picture (CBP), Vitamin D (25 - Hydroxy Vitamin D, Serum)
Usually 6 to 8 hours fasting. Some scans want a full bladder: Abdominal Ultrasound
8 to 12 hours fasting for the first sample: Diabetes Testing (FBS + PLBS)
Morning sample. Levels drop through the day: Free Testosterone
9 to 12 hours fasting. Water's fine: Lipid Panel
Go easy on protein and hard exercise the day before: Renal Function Test (RFT)
Tell the collection team everything you're taking, prescription or not. Plenty of supplements move these numbers, and without that context your report reads wrong.
Once a year minimum. Every six months for sugar, cholesterol and kidney function if you're diabetic or hypertensive.
A normal ECG at rest doesn't rule out narrowing that only shows when your heart's working hard. That's what a stress test is for. Talk to your doctor about which level of check fits your actual risk.
These tests point at a diagnosis. They don't make one. Read your report with a doctor who knows your history and what you're currently taking.
