About women under 25 years checkups
Most testing answers a question once. This is different. It's the feedback loop your treatment gets adjusted against.
If your diabetes is managed with medication or insulin, regular sugar readings show whether the current dose holds up in real life. Meals, stress, a bout of flu, a week of travel. A three-monthly HbA1c gives you the average. Monthly readings tell you where it's going wrong.
If you're on warfarin, INR sets your dose directly. Too low and you risk clots, too high and you risk bleeding, and the safe window is narrow enough that a change in diet, an illness or a new antibiotic can push you out of it between checks.

You take warfarin or another blood thinner
Your dose is currently being adjusted
You've just changed diabetes medication
Your doctor asked for monthly monitoring
This page lists 6 options. Here's what each one actually measures, so you can pick instead of guessing.
Blood tests
Diabetes Testing (FBS + PLBS): Sugar before food and two hours after. The second number is the interesting one, because that's where trouble shows up first.
Postprandial Blood Sugar Test: Sugar measured exactly two hours after a meal, showing how well your body clears what you just ate.
Random Blood Sugar Test: A sugar reading whenever you happen to be free. Not as precise as a fasting test, but you don't have to plan your day around it.
Fasting Blood Sugar Test: Your baseline sugar after an overnight fast. Simple, cheap, and still the usual first step.
PT/INR Test: How long your blood takes to clot. If you're on warfarin, this number sets your dose.
HbA1c: Your average sugar over the last two to three months. One good week won't fix this number, which is the point of it.
No fasting: HbA1c, Random Blood Sugar Test
8 to 12 hours fasting for the first sample: Diabetes Testing (FBS + PLBS)
8 to 12 hours fasting. Water's fine: Fasting Blood Sugar Test
Never skip your blood thinner before this test: PT/INR Test
Time it exactly 2 hours from your first bite: Postprandial Blood Sugar Test
Tell the collection team everything you're taking, prescription or not. Plenty of supplements move these numbers, and without that context your report reads wrong.
Monthly, or whatever your doctor set. INR may need checking more often while a dose is being adjusted. HbA1c belongs on a three-monthly cycle, monthly adds nothing.
Never skip your blood thinner before an INR test. The whole point is measuring how it's working in your system, so it needs to be in there.
These tests point at a diagnosis. They don't make one. Read your report with a doctor who knows your history and what you're currently taking.
